Exploded Origami

Project Description:

Introduction
Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding. It relies on connected angles and planes to define space into identifiable shapes. In this project you will choose from the following animals: pegasus, reindeer, rooster, fox, squirrel and kangaroo.

Process
1. Using the handout provided you will create your animal. Be sure to do a good job of this. A neatly and well crafted piece will make the rest of this assignment far easier.

2. Analyze the angles and planes that make up your animal. Closely examine how these planes interact to communicate the animal to the viewer. Be sure to consider, analyze and examine all sides.

Assignment
Using your analysis of the spacial and planer interactions found within your origami animal, create an exploded diagram of the animal in such a way that there is at least 1/2 inch of space between all parts and pieces. How can you enhance the aesthetic appeal of the animal without losing readability? Push further…can you enhance the appeal and readability of the animal by manipulating the angles and distances between each plane?

Here are some current student solutions.
