Offset Lithography vs. Digital Comps

One of the biggest problems in pre-press is understanding the difference between digital printing for comps and true offset lithography. Most students don’t know anything about commercial printing and mistake desktop publishing printers (laser and inkjet printers) with commercial offset printers. In the Pre-Press class we are trying to learn how to properly prepare our digital design work for offset or commercial printing so it helps to have a basic knowledge of the printing process. At the end of the class we will tour different types of print shops but until we get to that part of the class many of the students are really in the dark about how the work is really printed. Here is a link to a short YouTube video that explains the offset process.

Watch this and hopefully it will answer some of your questions.
